The Arts Society Falmouth

Our 2026-2027 Visits

We may arrange visits to local galleries, historic buildings and performances at various theatres. These trips give people a chance to get to know each other better in an informal atmosphere. Although we are restricted by our geographical situation in the south west corner of the country, we may arrange several visits a year, mainly day trips within Cornwall and Devon, but will also consider visits over several days, either to somewhere in Britain or overseas.

Some of the visits are not organised by us, in which case they would be shown as such, for example 'South West Area Event'. The Visits Secretary would be able to provide information to help you, with all events.

BLETCHLEY PARK & BLENHEIM PALACE

Synopsis:

Friday 16 October 2026 - 3 Day Tour

A fascinating tour giving an insight into two beautifully historic English treasures and their wonderfully preserved estates. We also learn stories of the past that give an insight into how our rich history shaped what Britain is today.

Bletchley Park is home to the origins of modern-day computing and was instrumental in defeating Nazi Germany.

Blenheim Palace, home to the Duke of Marlborough and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, exudes the beauty and splendour of British aristocracy.

The Holiday Inn Oxford sits on the outskirts of the city and provides a contemporary ambience with comfortable rooms, an open lobby, and a casual restaurant.

Bookings will be made via Williams Travel - 01209 717152. Further information is available from them or speak to our Visits Secretary, Phil Boddy

Friday

We leave Cornwall in the morning and enjoy a leisurely break for lunch enroute. We arrive at our lovely hotel in time to enjoy dinner.

Saturday

This morning we leave our hotel and travel to Bletchley Park; the once top-secret world of iconic codebreaking huts set within an atmospheric Victorian estate. It is a place of exceptional historical importance and played a major role in World War Two, producing secret intelligence which had a direct influence on the outcome of the conflict.

Sunday

After breakfast we make our way to Blenheim Palace, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture, landscaped parkland and stunning formal gardens. The gilded State Rooms inside the Grade I listed building contain priceless collections set against striking stonework. In the afternoon we begin the journey back to Cornwall arriving home in the evening.
