Our 2024-2025 Visits

We may arrange visits to local galleries, historic buildings and performances at various theatres. These trips give people a chance to get to know each other better in an informal atmosphere. Although we are restricted by our geographical situation in the south west corner of the country, we may arrange several visits a year, mainly day trips within Cornwall and Devon, but will also consider visits over several days, either to somewhere in Britain or overseas.

Some of the visits are not organised by us, in which case they would be shown as such, for example 'South West Area Event'. The Visits Secretary would be able to provide information to help you, with all events.

Saltram House

Synopsis:

Please Note this event is Fully Booked - You can add your name(s) to the Waiting List.

Although we are blessed with several wonderful NT properties close by there are some real beauties that are just that little bit too far on the edge of the county to comfortably reach under our own steam. One such property is Saltram House & Gardens at Plympton, nr Plymouth, a Grade 1 listed George II property designed by architect Robert Adam and deemed to be the most impressive country house in Devon. Taken over by the NT in 1957 it was recently featured in BBC TV’s “Hidden Treasures of the National Trust”.

Our full day coach visit will include a visit to the house as well as adequate time to explore the extensive gardens on foot - perhaps after a tasty bite of lunch in Saltram House’s bistro.

The cost of £20 covers the return cost of travel by an executive style 32 seater Williams Coach. There will NOT be an admission fee for NT members but for non members there will be a discounted admission charge of £13.30, payable direct to Saltram upon arrival. Although Saltram do not offer an actual guided tour of the house, each room will be staffed with knowledgeable guides well able to answer all questions posed.

We will leave ASDA Penryn at 9am and return by 6pm. And as a special treat we will be stopping en route for our comfort break at the infamous Jamaica Inn, high on Bodmin Moor, where coffees and teas etc will also be available.

Jamaica Inn
The Minack Theatre

Synopsis:

Jamaica Inn, Minack Theatre

A combined theatre & coach trip to The Minack, Porthcurno to see a matinee performance of the Surrey based Guildbury Theatre Company’s production of “Jamaica Inn” - Daphne Du Maurier's iconic novel.

The pick up point for our coach will be ASDA, Penryn and they have kindly agreed that we can leave our cars in their car park free of charge for the duration of our trip.

We suggest that you might like bring a picnic lunch or take a light lunch in the theatre’s café as we will be there well before the performance starts at 2.30pm. We envisage we will arrive back at approx. 6.25pm.

Why so far in advance?

This visit is deliberately being advertised early as only 16 tickets will initially be available. The Minack Theatre rigidly monitor coach sizes and a sixteen seater minibus is the largest they will allow to drop off theatregoers in their car park.

However if demand well exceeds availability (which we imagine it will) providing we act fast it might be possible for more to come, providing of course that further tickets and a suitable sized minibus can be sourced for the same performance .

Venue: The Minack, Porthcurno

Organised by: The Arts Society Falmouth

Cost: £44 Inclusive of Coach Travel and Entrance Ticket
