Synopsis:
This Study Day explored the backdrop to the Napoleonic Wars and appraises the paintings of Runge, Casper David Friedrich and Kersting with music by Beethoven, Von Weber, Mendelssohn and Schubert together with the concept of Deutschhiet or ‘Germaness’.
There were two morning and one afternoon lectures. The afternoon lecture was a recital with Peter at his Steinway grand piano.

10.30 to 11.30 - Session 1:
Session 1 was an introduction to the Napoleonic Wars and how the German speaking nations responded. The concept of Deutschheit or ‘Germaness’ is examined.
11.30 to 11.45 - Coffee Break
11.45 to 12.45 - Session 2:
Session 2 explored the culture of the Beidermeier world and the concentration of the Arts on the Drawing Room.
12.45 to 14.00 - Lunch Break
14.00 to 15.00 - Session 3
Session 3 was a lecture recital with Peter at his Steinway Grand Piano.
